2nd Grade Celebrations!

Where has this year gone?  These children have become family, and I love them all so dearly!    We have studied content:  addition, subtraction, word problems, telling time, reading and writing non fiction, but I hope that through it all your child has gained confidence, a feeling of self worth, respect for others and knowledge of just how special they are!

Thank you for your support this year through donations, party planning, crowd control, field trip chaperones and homework. But most of all, THANK YOU for trusting me with your precious little gifts, they will always have a special place in my heart and have been an incredible blessing to me!   I considered it an honor and privilege to work with these kids every day…. I love them to pieces and can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.  Have a wonderful summer and please stay in touch! 🙂

JUST WRITE 2015

Our big end of the year celebration writing celebration will be the final week of school, June 1 & 2.

just writeWe originally had this schedule for May, however the State of tests for Grade 3-5 take place April-May.

If you are new to the celebration, here’s the scoop:  WE FILL THE BUILDING and THE CLASSROOMS with the best writing from our year.  Every teacher will hold a celebration in their classroom and you will be able to see writing progression from grades PK-5 throughout the hallways.  Grades 3,4,5 will be held on Monday June 1 (times coming soon).  Grades Pk-2 will be held on June 2 (times coming soon).  To get a sample of the flavor of our celebrations, visit last year’s post.

Personally and professionally, writing is the most complex cognitive task that our learners engage in daily. The ability to write serves as the key to so much that lies ahead in our children’s futures. Throughout the year, our students become comfortable with expressing their words through writing. We feel it holds so much value that it’s worthy of a celebration.

Writing Celebration!

Our second graders have worked INCREDIBLY hard to complete their informational books to teach others about a specific topic.  They included many facts, text features ( diagrams, how to’s, labels, captions, glossaries, table of contents and many more), and used a wonderful “teaching” voice.    We were able to celebrate with Mrs. Kuieck’s class and share all of our learnings.   I am so proud of all of our writers! Keep up the great work! 🙂

BIG Time Readers!

Your second grade readers have been working so hard. We have been working on how to problem solve (using chunks of their words), staying on task during our entire reading time, working with a partner and making a plan, asking if the words and sentences make sense, and checking for understanding. We celebrated your BIG readers today by asking two questions… What are you proud of? How have you grown as a reader? Here is our heart that we made together!

Celebrations!

We have had a couple fun celebrations in Room 202 in the last couple weeks! We did some Halloween activities before our party. Check out our costumes!! And, we just finished up a writing celebration where we got to read stories from ALL of the second grade classrooms! Keep up the hard work!!

Just Write! :)

Thank you so much for coming to our Just Write Celebration!  We were so excited to share with you all the progress your child has made this year in writing.  It has been truly amazing to watch them grow and learn this year in writing!  🙂

We began our writing workshop on the very first day of school and your child has learned so many different strategies that good writers use to make their stories better.  We have learned how to zoom in on a small moment from a BIG idea story.  The kids have also learned things like… how to write an exciting lead, dialogue, SHOW-not tell, dot dot dots, repeat words, punctuation, spaces, capital letters, bold words, and remembering to the the bow at the end of their story!

I am so proud of you all!

Miss Taber 🙂

All About Graduation!

These first graders have come SO far in their writing.  I am proud to announce that they have all graduated from writing All About Books.  🙂

We celebrated by looking at our friend’s books first.  Then we had a small ceremony with music, noise makers, graduation hats, and diplomas!!

We walked our All About Books down to the library and placed them on a shelf so other friends in the school could read our work!!  We came back to have a toast– Congratulations 1st Graders!!  Way to go!  🙂
