Writing Celebration!

We wrapped up our non-fiction unit on Friday by celebrating with Mrs. Kuieck’s class. Your children have worked on writing introductions, teaching chapters, diagrams, different kinds of pages, how-to pages, conclusions, glossaries and text features. We have worked on editing by checking for capital letters for names and beginning of sentences, proper punctuation, reading carefully so our sentences make sense, and using our Quick Words to check our spelling. Our next unit is Realistic Fiction!

Writing Celebration

Our writers celebrated today by visiting Mrs. Greenlund’s class. We shared our realistic fiction stories with friends and had a great time celebrating what great writers we are becoming! These second graders are able to create a character, develop character traits, start with a strong lead, create a believable problem, use dialogue, show- not tell, and end our story by teaching a lesson. Keep up all the great work!

Writing Celebration

These second grade writers have been working SO hard! We studied Jonathan London this unit and learned how to include things like: sound words, repeating lines, bold words, ALL CAPITALS, dialogue, similies… and much more. We celebrated this morning with Mrs. Kuieck’s writers and the kids had a blast! Keep up the great work.

A Day of Celebrations!

Our second graders had a BUSY day on Friday! We started the morning celebrating our small moment stories with Mrs. VanKoevering’s class. Then, we rode in the limo to Pizza Ranch! The kids were so curious about the limo… would there be seatbelts? Can we sit wherever we want? How many people in a row? Their faces lit up when the driver told them they could be as loud as they want! (They didn’t understand the window between his seat and all of us… and why he wasn’t responding to their song requests! 😉 ) After we got back from lunch, we had to gear up to watch the Bubble soccer game! It was a long, fun day for the kids! Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible and came to celebrate with us!

Revising Partners

As we gear up for our first writing celebration, it’s important that we check over our stories MANY times before we actually celebrate. These writers have used a revising and editing checklist to make sure their stories are ready. We are working hard to make sure we have included ALL the things we have talked about this unit… exciting leads, dialogue, show- not tell, putting a heart in our story, and including a strong ending. Sometimes it’s hard for us to catch all of this in our own work, so we worked with a partner to get some tips and make sure we included our character action!

Opinion Writing Celebration

Our second grade writers have been working so hard. We have learned ALL about opinions… and have had a great time sharing our opinions. When we started the unit a few of them said… “I don’t have any opinions.” But, we quickly learned otherwise. 🙂

Our writers know that we need to start with an exciting lead to get our readers attention and let them know what we have an opinion about. Then, we need to provide reasons to convince the reader to agree with us! After each reason, it’s our job to give specific examples for each. Finally, at the end– we know to rate our review from one to five stars.

Today, we shared our reviews with the class. We had quite an assortment including video games, vacation spots, movies, books, and restaurants! At the end we celebrated with a  toast to all we have learned! These authors are looking forward to sharing their writing with you at the Just Write celebration in June! 🙂

Celebrations!

We have lots to celebrate! Here are the pictures from our mini poetry celebration and our writing celebration that we shared with the first graders. These authors have done such an amazing job. They started out a little unsure about poetry, but after some experimenting and sharing, we definitely have some experts! Looking forward to sharing their writing with you next week!
