Mayor Mark Comes For A Visit

Hudsonville’s mayor Mark Northrup came to visit the second graders of Georgetown Elementary. We learned about our local government, the mayor’s job and how city council and commissioners vote to approve or deny proposals in our community.

Mayor Mark selected city commissioners here at Georgetown to help him vote on certain topics that are being discussed currently in our local government.  Children were given the opportunity to speak to the Georgetown council about why they disagree or agree with the proposed solution or topic.  Topics  included a new senior citizen building,  building a new Veteran’s park, keeping dogs on leashes and a snow shoveling policy.  The children enjoyed being part of the process of how ordinances and laws are passed in our community.  We definitely learned how government works to keep our communities safe.
